Iris scanning is a biometric recognition and identification method. These devices can recognize individuals by video recording their unique iris patterns. This technology is used for access control and border crossings in secured buildings, airports, etc.
The technology is often based on near-infrared wavelengths. Therefore, NIR filters are often the preferred type of filter for these applications.
The performance of the optical filter in these applications is naturally very important since iris scanners have to detect and capture extremely fine details in the iris of the user.
