DEIF is a Danish company that produces controllers for use on land, water, and marine bridge instrumentation.
For DEIF, innovation is the foundation upon which all products are based. Covering almost half of the global market, the company is a leader in marine bridge instrumentation.
Marine bridge instrumentation has high demands to cover glass solutions, as it requires maximum readability from all angles out on the water.
Furthermore, these instruments need appropriate weather sealing, resistance to salt water, and the ability to withstand all types of weather.
That’s why DEIF continuously works on improving its solutions to achieve the best performance possible.
To improve the readability of the instruments, DEIF has changed its solution from an injection-molded cover to a cast acrylic cover glass solution in front of an LCD display. The new design and display solution ensures accurate color reproduction of the display.
After investigating the requirements for the cover glass, we ended up using Fine Hard Mat™️ as the project’s cover glass.
This solution is based on acrylic with surface treatment on both sides. The front side of the cover glass has a hard mat coating, while the rear side has a hard coat. Surface treatment on both sides ensures that the cover glass is easier to handle during mounting and assembly, resulting in a better and more efficient assembly process.
Martin Gudbjerg, the Senior Hardware Designer at DEIF, comments on the new solution:
”There is better optical performance in the PMMA with the Fine Hard Mat™️. Less haze and better transmission.”
By applying this solution from PSC, the display achieves a mat surface with anti-glare properties, providing optimal readability from all angles due to the hard mat coating.
